And it’s the only major thing we buy where we go in without knowing how much can afford before we starting shopping for it.

College. Yup, it’s true.

To get a ballpark idea of how much a particular college will cost your family, use the Net Price Calculator on each college’s website. It has to be there by law.

And use the FAFSA4caster to estimate your Expected Family Contribution, or EFC. This is how much the school things you can afford each year.
