About OFF GRID with DOUG and STACY:
We moved to our 11 acres in 2011 from a large city in the Midwest with zero carpentry and farming skills. We live with no solar / wind power / public water or well. We share our adventure to a sustainable life, growing our own food from vegetables to meat. We post videos DAILY and they range from HOW TO to EVERYDAY LIFE and NUTRITION on the off grid homestead. We were city folks just like you probably and wanted to enjoy life and have more control over our food. We share food recipes as well as natural remedies.

STRESS IS A KILLER ! It took me quite awhile to figure that out. I'm 74 with COPD on oxygen , so I'm very limited on activities now and I miss gardening…I love flowers. But I have houseplants and I do exercises for COPD . It's something and keeps me moving, so you're right…moving is important no matter what ! I enjoy your show.

Hi guys. I am new to your channel. Been watching now for about 4 months. I am a nurse and my husband has his own business. We live in Amish country PA. After watching over the months and learning more about the two of you I found many similarities. We too ride motorcycles, same ages, my husband is from Missouri. I am a true believer in you are what you eat. Stress is something the body remembers and takes stock in. I recently went back to college to obtain my masters degree and teach. One day doing a speech on farming past and present a light went off in m head. I see the results stress brings people. People need to know what GMO's and pesticides do to our bodies. Being in the trenches every day I have to make a change.
We already grow a lot of our own food, have chickens and beef rabbits. We found your channel and have totally decided to be totally free form all the stress. Lucky enough to find a whole group of homesteaders.Wanted to go to the convention this year but I did not have time to take off work. We built a beautiful 3200 sq ft home on the top of a mountain. The Appalachian trail runs behind us, and Hawk mountain. Was at one time a beautiful area. We are currently being surrounded by massive distribution centers. This was initially the reason to move. Then we found your community of homesteaders and now have another reason. I have been looking for land ever since. Pennsylvania taxes on land are way to high to obtain our dream. We want a substantial plot so it cannot be built up and destroyed like what is happening here. I literally am paying 9K a year for 1 acre of land in PA.
I feel like I can be beneficial to a community with my nursing skills and vast knowledge of healthy living. My husband being a builder can also be a benefit with all the skills he has. Basically in a nut shell we love you guys. I watch you every night when I come home from work at midnight and look for the new homesteader videos. I cannot wait to start our venture. We plan on moving in a year. Have a lot of stuff to liquidate.
Doug does the Amish look well. We live around many Amish and Mennonite.

Stacy what do you think of the cookware With diamonds (I don't think we can mention brand names), stating to be nontoxic, you have mentioned stainless steel and cast iron to be the safest, but what is your advice on this cookware?

Hi Doug and Stacy, another fun video, thank you, buuuuut…..what people REALLY want to know about retirement is how do you plan for it financially? I don't think anyone expects the personal details but we do all wonder

    1. do you have or recommend having money in retirement accounts? 2. Do you expect to get social security or any other form of pension? 3. Do you think people should have money in other investments, precious metals etc… because 4. what if you both get so old you cannot provide as much for your day to day food needs and cover land taxes etc, or have an injury and need medical care etc…
I like to think we can just go on forever doing most things for ourselves but have had a couple of 'overuse' injuries that remind me, one day my body may wear out, as healthy as our diet and lifestyle is. We also realise looking over our annual budget that some years surprise you eg this year we had a record number of vet visits.

Many, many, many people would be SOOOOO grateful for a video addressing these issues.

Very good show, unfortunately it's the middle of the day here in Australia so I watched it when I had the time. My off grid house will be an earthship as they're taking trash and turning it into something good. My mum uses solar lights inside to light the the house instead of lights. She get the cheapish outdoor solar lights and charges them during the day and brings them in at night. Not sure how much it saves but suppose it all helps.

My brother worked for a landscaper years ago and they used chemicals on all the golf courses in Pittsburgh. He died of pancreatic cancer. Chemicals do so much damage. Neighbors did farming and from using things and fertilizers 3 died of pancreatic cancer. They say a lot of women who golf get breast cancer. I bet they charged a pretty penny too. I am glad she is ok. Glad you did what you did and saved her. You don't have a cellphone for emergencies?
