WSIL — The $5 foot-long is a favorite at fast-food chain Subway, but it could soon be a thing of the past.

Subway CEO Trevor Haynes told USA Today each individual franchise owner can choose whether or not to offer the option starting this month.

The $5 foot-long had been taken off the menu for years, until last winter when Subway brought it back, much to the chagrin of franchisees.

Many franchisees complained about the pricing, claiming they came with a narrow profit margin.

The chain is pushing franchise owners to experiment with their own value deals based on business costs.
